Curious Mail is a children's subscription letter club operated based in St Ives, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. We send monthly letters, collectible cards and illustrated artwork to children aged 4-8.
We take the privacy and safety of children and their families very seriously. This policy explains clearly what information we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and your rights in relation to it.

2. What Information We Collect
We collect the following information from parents and guardians:
Parent or guardian information:
• Your full name
• Your email address
• Your home mailing address (for letter delivery)
• Payment details (processed securely through our payment provider. We do not store your full card details on our servers)
Child information:
• Your child's first name or nickname (used to address their letter personally)
Voluntary submissions (optional):
• Artwork or writing submitted by children for potential inclusion in future letters (shared only with parent or guardian permission)
• Ideas or feedback submitted through our website form
We do not collect photographs, school information, or any other sensitive personal information about children beyond what is listed above.
3. Why We Collect This Information
We only collect information that is necessary to provide our service. Specifically:
• Your mailing address is used solely to send your child's monthly Curious Mail letter. We do not use it for any other purpose.
• Your child's first name is used to personalise their letter, to address it to them directly.
• Your email address is used to send subscription confirmations, billing notifications, and service updates. We will only send marketing emails if you have opted in to receive them.
• Your payment information is processed by a secure third-party payment processor. We do not store your full card details.
• Your child's age is used to ensure letters are written at an appropriate level.
4. Children's Privacy. Our Specific Commitments
Because our service involves children, we have specific and strict commitments about how we handle information relating to them:
• We only collect a child's first name. We do not collect surnames, photographs, school details, or any other identifying information about children.
• We never share any information about children with third parties for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purpose.
• We never use children's names or information in any public-facing content without explicit written consent from a parent or guardian.
• Any artwork or writing submitted by children is kept confidential and will only be shared (for example, featured in a future letter) with the explicit permission of the parent or guardian who submitted it.
• Access to child information within our business is restricted to only those directly involved in preparing and sending letters.
• We do not knowingly collect information from children directly. All information is collected from parents or guardians on behalf of their child.
5. Who We Share Your Information With
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information or your child's information to any third party. Ever.
We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
• Payment processing: Your payment details are processed by a trusted third-party payment provider (Squarespace Payments). They are bound by their own strict privacy and security obligations.
• Email delivery: We use an email platform to send you subscription confirmations and service communications. They only process your email address for this purpose.
• Legal obligations: We may disclose information if required to do so by Australian law or valid legal process.
• Business transfers: In the unlikely event that Curious Mail is sold or transferred, we will notify you and your information will only be transferred in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Your mailing address is never shared with any third party other than Australia Post or the postal service used to deliver your child's letter.
6. How We Protect Your Information
We take reasonable steps to protect your information including:
• Storing subscriber information in secure, password-protected systems
• Restricting access to personal information to only the people who need it to provide the service
• Using secure payment processing that does not store full card details on our systems
• Using encrypted email and communications where possible
• Reviewing our data handling practices regularly

7. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your information for as long as your subscription is active. When you cancel your subscription we will delete your mailing address and your child's name from our active records within 30 days.
We may retain your email address and payment history for up to 7 years for tax and legal compliance purposes only, in line with Australian law.
Any artwork or writing submitted by your child will be deleted upon your request at any time.
8. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988, you have the right to:
• Access the personal information we hold about you and your child
• Correct any information that is inaccurate or out of date
• Request that we delete your information and your child's information
• Opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking unsubscribe or contacting us
• Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au if you believe your privacy rights have been breached
